Utilities and Move-In Checklist for a New Home in Cuenca
Between signing and feeling settled in, there's a short checklist of utility errands. Here's the order that causes the fewest headaches.

Moving into a new property in Cuenca — bought or rented — comes with a short checklist of utility setup steps. None of them are complicated on their own, but doing them in order helps.
The order worth following
- Water: in Cuenca, water is managed by ETAPA EP. If the property already has an active connection, a change of ownership is usually enough; if not, you'll need to request a new connection.
- Electricity: the local distributor is CENTROSUR. Same as with water — if a meter is already installed, the process is simpler than requesting a new one.
- Internet: several private providers cover Cuenca with fiber in most urban areas — worth confirming coverage at your specific address before signing up.
- Gas: residential gas in Ecuador is usually cylinder-based (LPG), not piped — so there's no connection process, just picking up your first cylinder.
- Update your address: if you bought the property, the ownership transfer with the local GAD Municipal (for the property tax record) is the one step worth not putting off.
If you're moving from abroad
Several of these steps ask for an Ecuadorian ID or tax ID. If you're still in the residency process, many providers will set up service under the owner's or landlord's name in the meantime — worth asking rather than assuming it's not possible.
